MasterDATA's Composite Plug-in for
MetaStock
and historical composite breadth datafiles on 31
major stock indexes and the 111 highest trade volume
ETFs.
There are at least three ways to apply a template to a MetaStock
Chart. The end result is the same for each.
Apply a Template To
an Open Chart
Right click somewhere on an open MasterDATA
compiled index or ETF chart and then left click on "Apply
Template".
In the "Apply Template" dialog window that
opens, browse to the "C:\MasterDATA\Templates\" directory
(this assumes that you installed to the default directories).
For this brief tutorial, select the template
"_MovingAverages.mwt" and click on the "Open" button.
A three pane chart will open.
The top inner window
displays a candlestick chart of the original base symbol
from your original open chart. Additionally, MasterDATA's
Trend Channel Indicator is plotted showing its Upper Trend
Channel (blue),
Pivot (red)
and Lower Trend Channel (blue).
The middle window
is a simple line plot (light blue)
showing the percentage of components of the chart index
or ETF symbol trading above their 200 period moving
average.
Similarly, the
bottom inner window are four simple line plots showing the
percentage of components of the chart index or ETF symbol
trading above their 30 (blue),
18 (fuchsia),
9 (yellow)
and 4 (lime)
period moving averages.
In MetaStock, click on the
(open) icon.
At the bottom of the "Open" dialog window that appears,
make sure that "Smart Charts" is displayed in the "Files
of type:" section.
If you used the default settings for your
installation, browse to the "C:\MasterDATA\PriceFiles\Daily\"
directory.
Before opening a chart, look at the top
of the "Open" dialog window and click on "Options".
In the drop down menu that occurs, click on "Open with Template".
In the "Open with Template" dialog window
that opens, browse to the "C:\MasterDATA\Templates\"
directory (this assumes that you installed to the default
directories).
Select the same template as above, "_MovingAverages.mwt",
and click on the "Open" button.
Select any composite symbol you wish to
view and click on the "Open" button.
A three pane chart will open using the
"_MovingAverages.mwt" template as described in the previous
example.
Create a Custom Toolbar
Button To Apply a Template
To display the custom toolbar, choose "Toolbars"
from the View menu, then choose Custom (a check mark will
appear when it is selected).
We will add a "Toolbar button" to
the Custom toolbar. Choose Toolbars from the View menu,
then click on "Custom Toolbar Properties". The
"Custom Toolbar Properties" dialog window will appear.
Click on the "New" button in the
right hand section of this dialog window.
Browse to the "C:\MasterDATA\Templates\"
directory (this assumes that you installed to the default
directories) and select the "_MovingAverages.mwt" template.
Click on the "Open" button. Then click on "Next".
Click on the icon you wish to appear on
the custom toolbar for this template. Modify the "screen
tip" if you wish. Then click on "Next".
Modify the "Status Bar prompt" if you wish.
Then click on "Finish".
Your new Toolbar Button should appear on
the MetaStock Toolbar.
When a MasterDATA compiled index or ETF
chart is open, you can click on this button to apply the same
template as in the two previous examples.
